The administration of this examination was previously the responsibility of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) until 2019. NEET UG serves as the singular all-India entrance examination for securing admission to Medical, Dental, and Ayush colleges nationwide.

NEET UG 2024

National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test commonly called will be conducted by National Testing Agency for admission to the following UG medical courses –

An aspirant who applies for NEET has to meet the eligibility criteria of NEET which specifies the academic qualifications, age limit, pass percentage, nationality etc that are mandatory to appear for the exam.

The NEET eligibility criteria are based on regulations of Graduate Medical Education 1997 Act. Candidates must meet the NEET eligibility as given failing which they will  not be allowed to appear for the exam.

It should be noted that merely fulfilling the eligibility criteria of NEET is not sufficient for admissions. NEET admission criteria  and cutoff for MBBS, BDS and other medical courses will be separate for All India and state counselling.

Know the NEET 2024 eligibility criteria

Nationality Indian Nationals, NRIs, PIOs, OCIs and Foreign Nationals are eligible to take NEET
Age Limit Candidates who are 17 years and above as on the date of admissions or by December 31, 2024 are eligible to apply for NEET. There is no upper age limit as of now
Qualifying Exam Candidate must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination with Chemistry, Biology and Physics as mandatory subjects. They must have scored a minimum of 50% in aggregate and in each subject too. OBC/ SC/ST candidates must have scored a minimum of 40% while PWD candidates must score at least 45% in the qualifying exam
Number of Attempts There is no limit to the number of attempts for NEET until specified
NIOS and other open schools Open schooling candidates are eligible for NEET as per the last ruling however, the matter is under subjudice.
Biology as extra subject This clause is subjudice. Candidates who have Biology as an extra subject however, can also apply for NEET.
Reservation Criteria for All India and State Candidates applying for All India quota must fall under the central list for NEET reservations. For state wise counselling, they will be eligible to apply for admissions if they belong to the reserved category of the state.
Domicile There is no domicile or residency clause for All India quota. However, state wise counselling is open to students of the state only and other seats as per the given guidelines of the respective state.
EWS Category

To apply for NEET under EWS, candidates
Should not fall under SCs, STs and OBCs reservations
Family has gross annual income below Rs 8 lakhs including all sources of income
And Should not have the following

  • 5 acres of agricultural land and above;
  • Residential at of 1000 sqft. and above;
  • Residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities;
  • Residential, plot of 200 sq. yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.

Property held by a “Family” in different locations or different places/cities would be clubbed
Family includes the candidate, his/her parents and siblings below the age of 18 years as also his/her spouse and children below the age of 18 years
Candidates must submit a certificate to the effect during NEET counselling

How to choose qualifying code in NEET?​

NEET eligibility for admission in BUMS Course– Candidates must have passed class 10 with Urdu or Arabic or Persian language as a subject, or clear the class 10 Urdu test (wherever there is provision to conduct of such test) in the entrance examination conducted by the University or Board or registered Society or Association authorised by the Government to conduct such examination.

Eligibility through NEET for admission in BSMS course – Candidates must have passed Tamil as one of the subjects in class 10 or equivalent or candidates shall have to study Tamil as a subject during the first professional course

Documents Required at Exam

  • NEET admit card
  • One passport size photograph
  • PAN Card/Driving License/Voter ID/Passport/Aadhaar Card (with photograph) /Ration Card/any other valid government ID
  • PWD certificate issued by the competent authority if applicable
  • Letter of undertaking of own scribe if applicable

Neet UG 2024 Medical Counselling

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under Graduate (NEET UG 2024), succeeded from All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) is an entrance examination in India for students who wish to study undergraduate Medical courses (MBBS) and Dental courses (BDS) in government or private medical colleges and dental colleges in India.

The undergraduate NEET (UG), for MBBS and BDS courses, is currently conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which provides the results to the Directorate General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Prior to 2019, the test was administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The official website of the NTA for NEET (UG)-2024 is https://neet.nta.nic.in All the test-related information, as amended from time-to-time (if any), will be available on this website only. Candidates must regularly view this website for the latest updates.1

Mode of Counselling: Online, Offline

As per the information brochure and the latest guidelines, NEET counselling is broadly of two types. One is the All India counselling conducted by DGHS for 15% All India Quota seats in government medical colleges and all seats in Central Institutions including AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, ESI, Delhi University (DU), BHU, AMU and Deemed Universities .

The second is the state counselling held by each individual state medical council for the rest of the 85% of the seats in the government colleges, state run universities and the private medical colleges of the state. Only students who qualify in NEET will be eligible for the counselling subject to certain regulations.

NEET counselling is generally held in two rounds followed by a mop-up round for any vacant seats left after the first two rounds. Candidates must apply for the counselling as per their eligibility.

An important point to note is that all candidates who qualify in NEET 2024 will be eligible to apply for the All India counselling. However, for the respective state counselling processes, admissions will be based on factors like domicile, residency in state etc. Candidates must check whether they meet the state admission criteria before applying for the state counselling.

NEET seat allotment will be based on the All India Rank of the applicants, choice of colleges entered, seat availability, reservation criteria etc.
